Patient Access Acceleration

The Patient Access Acceleration initiative is an ambitious undertaking by EFNA and the EBC, in partnership with Cap Gemini in Berlin. It aims to analyse the reasons why patients with serious neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis do not get effective treatments, to propose improvements to current processes that hinder access and then to implement these improvements through pilot projects The scope is therefore everything from basic science, development of treatments and regulatory approval, to pricing, reimbursement, clinical guidelines and clinical practice.

Through workshops with key leaders and policy makers, interviews and extensive analysis, the project is now focussed on three areas where the biggest impact can be made. These are: the formation of a research network for biomarker development, clinical trials optimisation and conditional approval, and making the brain a priority for every member state healthcare system.
